The memorandum documented discussion of a luncheon among Mr. Yorke Allen, Jr. (President of the Board of Trustees of Lingnan University); Alfred Hayes, Dr. Eric M. North (Chairman) and Dr. William P. Fenn (Executive Secretary) of the Trustees of the United Board for Christian Colleges in China. The purpose of the luncheon was to explore the implications of the "Excerpt from Minutes of (United Board) Trustee, 1955 Nov 18, presented to the Lingnan Trustees at the November 29th meeting by Dr. Fenn., which formally requested Lingnan to consider "eventual integration" as "the recognized goal of any interim relationship with the United Board".
The records indicated the United Board found the relationship with Trustees of Lingnan was less then satisfactory. While Trustees of Lingnan was in doubts over the benefits for getting Lingnan to become part of the United Board.
