信中內容顯示嶺南中學增設高中部原由嶺南大學同學會香港分會動議，後得到香港嶺南中學校董會接納並成立籌建委員會主持工作。信中建議委員會人選由校董會李自重、陳汝銳、曹耀、余任榮、林植生及蔡惠民擔任，另由同學會選派5人為委員，成員包括林逸民、陳肇祥、陳應鳴、陸容章及李毓宏。
委員會成立後的首次會議在1955年2月22日舉行。
